Damascus steel is a form of ancient steel which Japanese Bladesmiths refined and used for making their high quality Samurai swords for over 1500 years.

Today, Japanese Damascus Hitachi ATS314 is the finest Stainless steel available for manufacturing scissors. The steel is similar to Samurai steel in that it is made from anywhere between 9 and 20 layers that are folded and then hardened and tempered by expert Bladesmiths

It is a mythical legend that the swords made from Damascus steel in 100AD were strong enough to cut through rock and sharp enough to be able to cut a piece of silk in half as it fell to the ground.
